UTHC announces call for applications for Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program

July 26, 2023

  • The UT Humanities Center is soliciting applications from UT faculty who would like to invite a non- U.S. scholar to campus as part of theĀ Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program. The visiting scholar will need to win the Fulbright competition in their home country; if they do so, the Humanities Center will provide additional support for the scholar while they are in the US in the form of office space and up to $9,700 in addition to their Fulbright stipend. The scholar will be expected to work at the Humanities Center office, give at least 4 public lectures in some form, and engage in other activities of their choosing, to be negotiated with the Humanities Center Director and their host department. To participate in the Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program, the scholar must:

    • be a citizen of a country participating in the Visiting Scholar Program. U.S. citizens and permanent residents are NOT eligible for the Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program.
    • possess a doctoral degree or equivalent professional training or experience at the time of application.
    • Have sufficient proficiency in the English language to engage in U.S. academia and to carry out the proposed project.

Faculty interested in nominating a Fulbright candidate for UTHC support should submit the following:

    • A brief 1- to 2-page description of the Fulbright scholar’s proposed project while they are on campus, with an explanation of how it will benefit both the UT researcher and the UT research/teaching community. If the UT faculty member is a research collaborator, this should be made clear.
    • A general, draft timeline of activity for the visiting scholar: what they propose to do while on campus, and when
    • The CV of the external scholar
    • Brief departmental letter of support.

Please submit your materials via the InfoReady portal by Friday, September 15, 2023.
