The UT Humanities Center periodically hosts reading groups for faculty, staff, and students. Designed for readers from all parts of the university, our reading groups bring people with similar interests together to read and discuss a specific book related to humanities inquiry.

Humanities Matters

The “Humanities Matters” series considers new perspectives on the value of the humanities to democracy and a life well-lived.

Research Inquiry Groups

Research Inquiry Groups are reading groups convened to investigate an emerging area of study important to humanities inquiry and potentially leading faculty across fields to collaborative research.

One Book, Many Conversations

The “One Book, Many Conversations” reading group invites the public to discuss the book selection in the national One Book, Many Conversations program affiliated with the National Humanities Alliance and other national humanities groups.

UT ranks tenth in the country among all universities, public and private, in the number of NEH fellowships received between 2004 and 2022.

Graduate students chosen to spend a year in the UTHC working on their dissertations graduate, on average, 1.5 years sooner, publish their first book sooner, and receive better job offers than other students in the humanities.

Faculty who spend a year at the University of Tennessee win NEH and other awards and publish award-winning books and research projects more quickly.
