The UT Humanities Center is a vibrant research center on the Knoxville campus of the University of Tennessee. Our team is a dynamic and close-knit group that works hard and believes in the transformative potential of arts and humanities research.
We are seeking internal applications for the position of UTHC Associate Director of Research Programming. This is a one-year position, renewable for a second year, running August 1 though May 31 of the academic year and beginning August 2024, though we can consider earlier start dates. Candidates must be tenured faculty in one of the nine primary UT arts and humanities departments affiliated with the UTHC. The ideal candidate will come to the position as a valued contributor to a team creating innovative programming to meet changing research landscapes within a multidisciplinary (and interdisciplinary) research environment.
The ADRP will work closely with the Humanities Center Director to administer research programming key to the UTHC’s foundational mission of fostering and supporting humanistic research:- the Faculty, Graduate Student, and DH Fellowship Programs
- the Faculty Manuscript Review Program
- the Faculty Book Proposal Review Program.
As part of the UTHC’s administrative team, the ADRP also will have the opportunity to help define a new Arts Studio Fellowship and to suggest and help define new UTHC research programming. The ADRP will be expected to attend Chandler Seminars in which UTHC fellows present their research; to attend events hosted by the Center; and to keep some office hours at the Center, which will be located at Cherokee Mills, on a new dedicated bus route to and from campus.
The associate directorship offers the following per academic year:
- a one-course release from teaching, which must be approved before application by the head of the faculty member’s home department
- a $4,000 administrative stipend for the academic year, which will be added to salary
- $1000 in personal research funds
- a workspace at the Humanities Center and all privileges of the Center.
Applications should include a letter of application of no more than 2 pages, a CV, and a memo from the head of the faculty member’s home department stating that they are eligible for a course release in that department should they be selected for this position. All documents should be collated as one continuous pdf document and emailed to the Humanities Center at <humanitiesctr@utk.edu>.
Applications must be received at the Humanities Center by December 6, 2023. Finalists may be contacted for an interview with the director; candidates will be notified of final decisions in late January.
